Red Root Floater, or Phyllanthus Fluitans, is one of the best-looking floating plants for an aquarium. Being native to the Amazon River Basin in South America, their remarkable and stunning red roots submerged in the water while the top of the plant floats on the surface. 

 

Very adaptable and doing well in a wide range of environments makes Red Root Floater an excellent choice for beginners. Because of its fast spread, the fish can benefit from the natural coverage and feel safe to come out of shelters. Betta fish and other freshwater shrimp can get along with this plant, while large species can be trapped in the dense roots. Keep Red Root Floater away from Goldfish or Oscar Fish tanks because they view this plant as a tasty food. Not only famous for their unique aesthetics, but these floating plants also help maintain the optimal levels of water parameters by absorbing nitrates, promoting the oxidation process and removing biological waste that could harm your fish. 

Red Root Floater prefers living environment close to their natural growing conditions and can survive in low to high light conditions. The color of leaves can change following how much light it receives. These floaters require no additional supplements or CO2 but prefer nutrient-rich water, especially iron. As a floating plant, adding substrate is also unnecessary because the roots stay visible and absorb nutrients from the water. 

Pruning is one of the most critical parts of Red Root Floater care to manage the plants’ massive expansion, which may occasionally block the light of other live plants or tank mates below. Ensure the water flow is calm because a lot of movement on the water surface can lead to Red Root Floaters dying.
